Overview
Registration for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme is now open!
About 6,000 volunteers will be selected to form the most skillful, diverse, cool, and fun team participating in this historic edition of the AFC Asian Cup™ hosted by Qatar from 12 January to 10 February 2024.
Volunteers must either be Qatari nationals or residents of Qatar and must be 18 years or older by 1 November 2023.
When does registration open and what’s the deadline to register?
Registration will be open from 5 October.
The exact date for the end of registration will be communicated at a later stage. However, we urge candidates to complete the registration and fill out the application form as soon as possible, as the registration window won’t be open for too long and interviews start soon.
Who is eligible to apply as a volunteer?
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old by 1 November 2023.
- Be a Qatari national or resident of Qatar possessing a valid QID at the time of application.
- Be available to commit to a minimum of 7 shifts during the tournament (January and February 2024. Some volunteer roles will start as early as 1 December 2023).

I am an international volunteer, can I participate?
Volunteer opportunities for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ are limited to citizens and residents of Qatar. With Qatar set to host numerous sporting and cultural events in the future, there will undoubtedly be plenty of more volunteer opportunities for everyone to partake in.
How can I register?
Individuals who meet the criteria can register at Volunteer.AsianCup2023.qa You will be required to fill an application form. The process will take approximately 15 minutes if you have your QID and a photo of yourself ready.
I am having issues completing my application. What should I do?
If you are having any technical problems that are preventing you from completing your application or accessing your volunteer portal, please contact [email protected].
Do I need a QID to register?
Yes, your QID is required to complete and submit your registration form. Without a valid QID number, your registration will not be processed.
I am living in Qatar and have a valid Hayya. Can I participate?
Only Qatari nationals and residents of Qatar with a valid QID can participate.
I have previously expressed my interest and/or participated in the long-term volunteer project. Do I still need to register?
Yes, even if you already have expressed your interest in joining the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme or are an active member of our long-term volunteer project, you still need to register at Volunteer.AsianCup2023.qa and follow the required steps.
What is a long-term volunteer? Are long-term volunteers guaranteed a role in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme?
All candidates who expressed interest and were selected to support the early stages of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme are considered long-term volunteers – or “Volunteer League” members – for this event.
This group will follow a different journey but is still required to register at Volunteer.AsianCup2023.qa and follow the required steps.
Will applying to be a volunteer guarantee participation?
Applying is only the first step in the recruitment process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applicants and the limited number of volunteer positions, we cannot guarantee every candidate who completed the application form, an invite to the interview stage.
What are the criteria being used to select volunteers?
Candidates are selected on the basis of the information provided in the application form, an assessment of their interview performance and the set of skills needed by each project to deliver the event.
Having previous volunteer experience is an advantage but not a requirement.
Availability and willingness to commit is also something our recruiters will be looking at.
Having a good command over the English language is also needed, as English is the official language of the Volunteer Programme.
Will I be invited to an interview? When and where will it happen?
Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a group interview at our Recruitment Centre located at Lusail Stadium.
Interviews start from 10 October.
When will I know the result of my interview?
Successful candidates will receive a volunteer role offer in early November.
Regardless, all candidates will receive a response by mid-December.
What are the steps to become a Qatar 2023 volunteer and the timeline?

- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview (October and November)
- Successful candidates will be offered a volunteer role (November and December)
- Selected candidates will receive training, shift schedule, uniform, and accreditation (November, December, and January)
- Deliver the greatest AFC Asian Cup™ ever (December, January, and February)
Can I choose my volunteer role?
Candidates can indicate their preferred area in the application form. However, it cannot be guaranteed that one will be assigned to a preferred role due the limited number of positions available for each project.
We strongly encourage candidates to be open to the volunteer experience and embrace the offered role, as every project gives volunteers the unique opportunity to experience what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ of an event the size of the AFC Asian Cup™, to learn new things in a friendly and fun atmosphere, develop skills, as well as meeting hundreds of people from different cultures who share the same passion for football.
Will I receive any monetary compensation or reward?
Volunteering does not involve any monetary compensation or reward. However, volunteering for an event the size of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ gives participants the unique opportunity to develop new skills, build their professional aptitude and gain valuable experience that will equip them with knowledge, insights, and expertise, that will benefit them for years to come.
Will I receive a volunteer uniform?
All AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ volunteers will receive a uniform to be worn during their shifts. Distribution will start close to the beginning of operations and volunteers will be invited to collect these. Further details will follow.
Will I be provided transport?
The Local Organizing Committee is working with QRail to provide the best transport solution for volunteers. Further details will follow.
Will I be provided with meals?
Yes, a meal will be provided during each volunteer shift.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, volunteers will receive a certificate by the end of the tournament.
I am currently employed, will I be given an exemption based on my volunteering?
We will provide you with a letter encouraging your employer to adjust your working hours to accommodate your volunteering activities, however, it is fully up to the employer to accept/reject. It remains the volunteers’ responsibility to ensure their availability prior to the start of the training process.
If selected to volunteer, can I bring along a family member / friend?
You are not allowed to bring along a friend / family member to attend your shifts unless the person is also officially performing a volunteer role. Only accredited people with a scheduled shift will be allowed to access the venues.
Am I allowed to volunteer for multiple events, including other events in Qatar, while participating in the Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme?
While our primary focus is on the successful execution of the Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Volunteer Programme, we acknowledge and encourage our volunteers’ enthusiasm to contribute to other events as well. However, we strongly urge our volunteers to ensure their full commitment to the Asian Cup Qatar 2023™. Volunteers should only enroll if they are confident in their ability to fulfill the requirements meticulously and diligently, as our objective is the seamless delivery of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™
